The coming Easter Period holidays is the most challenging in the road traffic management calendar. Thousands of motorists comprising of holiday makers, migrant workers, religious pilgrims and freight transport operators will be travelling the length and breadth of our major arterial road networks to various destinations around the country. The road carnage during this period increases placing a huge burden on emotional and financial costs to the affected families and the economy as a whole.
Since South Africa is a member of the United Nations Road Safety Collaboration, it is expected to respond effectively to the 2020 50% reduction target. In order to reach that target, every effort will be made to ensure that road safety initiatives are impactful, visible, and sustainable to bring about a dramatic behaviour change amongst road users.
