ABOUT SARTSMA

SARTSMA is the Trade Association for businesses engaged in the manufacturing and supply of road traffic safety devices and related products within South Africa, aiming to provide advantages to members through its representative capacity. SARTSMA stands as a knowledgeable and influential entity within the South African Transportation Industry, with its members dedicated to adhering to the pertinent national regulations and standards governing Road Traffic Safety products.

SARTSMA is committed to addressing numerous challenges faced in the South African Road Traffic Safety sector, striving to impact technological advancements and enhance standards within this field. The Association collaborates closely with the National Department of Transport and is represented on various government and technical committees under their guidance, including the Road Safety Engineering & Road Signs Sub-Committee and associated Working Groups. 

SARTSMA is acknowledged by the South African National Roads Agency Limited (SANRAL) and maintains strong relationships with South African consulting engineering firms. SARTSMA is affiliated with the South African Road Federation (SARF) and actively participates in their regional and road safety committees.

The presentation module developed by SARTSMA, which focuses on effective road traffic signage and reflective sheeting technology, is incorporated into the Traffic Safety Officer training course, thereby contributing to economic growth through education and training for contractors and industry stakeholders. Through our involvement in several SABS Technical Committees and related Working Groups, SARTSMA is strategically positioned to participate in the formulation of standards pertinent to our industry sectors. This ensures that such standards are consistently driven by business needs and crafted by technical specialists in the field, guaranteeing that the resulting standards are both credible and feasible for implementation.

SARTSMA remains engaged in open participation, fostering connections with other trade organisations, public authorities, academic institutions, and NGO representatives to achieve consensus within South Africa.

AIMS

  • To establish, provide, and sustain a central national organization for individuals involved with systems and products related to the detection, measurement, safety, guidance, and control of road traffic.

  • Encourage the advancement of SMME Operations.

  • To promote, nurture, and support collaboration, joint efforts, and mutual assistance among the members of the Association, as well as with external individuals, associations, and other entities that share interests and objectives with the Association and its members.

  • To submit proposals and representations regarding the objectives of the Association to National, Provincial, and Local Government Departments, along with other Public Bodies and Authorities; and to the extent feasible, ensure the acceptance of such proposals and representations, while also securing representation and appointing representatives on Government Committees and other Public Bodies and Authorities.

OBJECTIVES

  • Encourage the adoption of high-quality Traffic Safety products as economical solutions that enhance and improve road safety.

  • Inform End Users and Specifiers about the advantages of utilising the services and products offered by SARTSMA members.

  • Ensure that members are informed about pertinent industry standards.

  • Establish a reputable voice for the Industry to Government and Standards Bodies to guarantee that the standards and specifications developed are credible and feasible for implementation.

  • Collaborate with Government and Standards Bodies to ensure that the standards and specifications created are credible and can be effectively implemented.

  • Participate in addressing issues related to non-compliance with mandatory Standards and Specifications.
