IRF Conference

During the 2nd – 4th September, 2014, SARTSMA attended the SARF / IRF 5th Regional Conference for Africa at the CSIR Conference Centre, Pretoria, South Africa. The conference theme was “Improving Capacity & Safety for Road Transport in Africa” and the programme provided a feast of knowledge for all those who attended, with speakers from USA, Africa, Europe, South Africa, India, Pakistan, Australia and New Zealand. Garry Savill, SARTSMA chairman, presented a paper entitled “Road Traffic Sign Regulation for Improved Safety”, highlighting current issues of tender and contract issues, examples of poor quality finished road traffic signs and potential safety and legal consequences, the need for improved control of manufacturing and installation techniques and recommendations for improving and maintaining the quality of manufactured and installed road traffic signs. SARTSMA hosted and exhibition stand at the conference, which was well attended by local and international visitors, and discussions were held with Transport Officials, Consultant Engineers, Scientists, Students and other Infrastructure Industry role players.
