SARTSMA was invited to the recent RTMC Stakeholder Consultation meeting, which was held at Emperor’s Palace on 5 February 2014. After an introduction from Mr. Gilberto Martins (DDG RTMC) and an overview of the current status of RTMC by the new CEO, Advocate Makhosini Msibi, Ms. Refilwe Mongale delivered an outline of the RTMC Strategic Plan 2014-2019. The presentation included the current challenges facing the RTMC vision of “Safe Roads in South Africa” and the plans that have been developed to tackle the issues surrounding Education, Enforcement, Coordination, Partnerships, Planning and Engineering, using a Plan > Do > Check > Act (PDCA model). The plan has 5 strategic goals, namely:
Stakeholder Relations
Review and Implementation of Legislation
Financial Stability
A Dynamic and Transformed Organisation
Foster Good Governance
Aspects of each strategic goal were presented and summed up as a “Business Unusual” strategy implementation plan that is gearing up for change. The floor was then opened for a question and answer session, with many of the attendees, including Justice Project, Escom, SAICE, SAPS and SARTSMA requesting feedback and providing input to the process going forward. The full feedback report will be provided to SARTSMA and the other attendees in the near future and RTMC confirmed that there will be further consultation forum meetings planned.
